“David danced before the Lord and was girded in a linen ephod.” (II Samuel 6:14)

King David personally brought the ark of the covenant back to it’s rightful home in Jerusalem among the people of God. David not only walked ahead of the ark, he danced in front of all of Jerusalem’s citizens. His wife watched from a window and was filled with wrath as her husband, the king, removed his prestigious robe and was dressed as a comm on priest. There were many priests, but only one king. How could her husband be so callous toward her feelings to dress and act as a common priest? David could not be recognized among the priests. He no longer looked like a king. He left the throne and joined the people. Apparently, David’s wife enjoyed being part of royalty and did not enjoy her husband identifying with the common people or common leadership. God disliked her attitude so much, her womb was closed and she never had children.

God enjoys us identifying with His people of all walks and nationalities. When we come to church, we are meeting the family of God, joining in the royal priesthood. We need to take off our kingly robes and look and act like the priest we are. We need to shed the attitude of our worldly position. Leave your banker’s clothing at home. You are not an attorney or investment counselor when you come to church. Neither are you a waiter at a restaurant or a janitor. Every person who is a child of God is dressed in a linen ephod. When we come to church, we all look alike to God. The banker stands beside the janitor and they worship God together. This is the place where we worship God with all our might, sing, shout and dance. In the body of Christ as well as the local church, there is no male or female, rich or poor, black or white, educated or uneducated, Jew or Greek. We are all one through the blood of Jesus.

Church on earth is a type of the throne room of heaven. One day we will all stand before God as the redeemed of the ages and praise the Lamb of God forever. There will be no white or blue-collar section, no rich or poor. There will be no black or white section, or Baptist or Methodist. But we will all be priests rejoicing before the Great High Priest, Jesus. Why wait until then? Let’s start now.
