Why Do We Need A Pastor?

Deuteronomy 1:38:

But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he sahll cause Israel to inherit it (Canaan).

Stop and think of as many ways as you can about what causes prosperity to come to your life. Meditating on God's Word might come to mind. Next, you might think of being a doer of the Word; walking uprightly before Him and living a sanctified life. Finally, you might think about sowing seed. Each is found in God's Word and are part of the plan for supernatural prosperity. However, one thing you might not have thought of is being a committed member of a church.

Today, just as in Joshua's day, being submitted to a pastor, a leader, causes you to inherit the promised land of prosperity and blessing. A good pastor represents the leadership of Jesus in your life. Like following the apostle Paul, to follow a good pastor is to follow Christ. As Jesus watches over His flock, the Church, so a pastor watches over the sheep entrusted to him. He is responsible for many areas of your personal life. Hebrews 13:17 says, "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account."

First, a pastor watches out for your soul. He teaches God's Word so you will be able to take authority over every thought that does not line up with God's will for your life. The care of your soul is not left with you alone, but also with a shepherd, your pastor. He prays for you "that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God." (Colossians 4:12)

Secondly, your pastor will one day give an account to God, not only for his teaching but also for your spiritual growth. He benefits by your submission to his teaching and you will be rewarded in heaven for your obedience to his revelations of the Word.

You will not only be rewarded in heaven one day; you will also prosper right here on earth. Your pastor will cause you to inherit the blessings of God.
